Alopecia areata affects up to 147 million individuals globally. Until recently, no reliable or safe effective treatment has been available. Through a better understanding of molecular biology, targeted therapies have emerged as alternative treatments.  There is increasing evidence that JAK inhibitors are effective in the treatment of alopecia areata and several studies have been published demonstrating the efficacy of the JAK inhibitors tofacitinib, ruxolitinib and baricitinib.  Phase 2a trial data will be presented on two novel JAK inhibitors for moderate to severe alopecia areata.
